Assist the physicians/providers with the examination and treatment of patients and perform routine tasks required to ensure the clinic runs smoothly; participate in the planning and evaluation of patient care. Treats adult and geriatric populations
Review daily schedule and anticipate providers’ support needs including support for new patients, restaging patients, change of therapy, community resources, and oral chemotherapy.
Assist providers in preparing orders. Determine visit schedule and lab frequency as instructed by providers.
Prepare new protocols as instructed by provider. Identify protocols that require further authorization.
Coordinate communication of chemotherapy orders (new orders and regimen changes) to ensure billing preauthorization and advanced notification for pharmacy. Ensure that appropriate primary and secondary diagnoses, ICD-9 and ICD-10 codes, pathology, scheme, staging, and TNM information are documented for billing preauthorization.
Patient Care Plan Management
Meet with new patients to set up plan of care.
Work with providers, pharmacy, reimbursement and other appropriate staff to establish and implement the patient’s plant of care.
Establish the plan of care for all oral chemotherapy patient as instructed by provider. Identify and monitor cycles and lab orders. Educate patients on cycling and possible symptom management.
Work with the nursing staff to establish the schedule workflow and ensure that all chemotherapy patients stay on schedule.
Patient Navigation/Coordination of Care
Work with clinical team to assure efficient coordination of patient care and optimal level of care.
Identify patient’s need for community resources and coordinate referrals.
Provide ongoing education to the patient and identify available community resources to assure optimal level of function and care
Work with the Oncology team through Kalispell Regional Healthcare to assure patient navigation and support of available services such as radiation therapy, surgery, diagnostic studies, nutrition, naturopathy, and psychosocial support.
Oncology Nursing Duties including but not limited to:
Triage symptom management calls. Coordinate with providers and take appropriate action. Document triage calls in EMR.
Accept incoming calls related to abnormal diagnostics and/or labs, alert physician/ provider, and take appropriate action.
Lab Duties (PRN)
Collects, packages, and accurately labels all specimens immediately upon receipt; forwards to designated lab(s) according to established protocols.
Practice Leadership Support
Assist the staff, coaches the staff and provides professional nursing care to patients.
Assess and anticipate the needs of the patient, and coordinates the necessary interventions as defined by policy, procedure and the written/verbal orders of the physician/approved provider.
Coordinate the delivery of patient care in a professional manner in compliance with hospital and nursing policies and procedures
Review clinical schedules to determine staffing needs based on patient acuity, productivity, and policy guidelines.
Determine patient assignments and delegates duties according to appropriate patient acuity and skill mix of staff.
Communicate with practice leadership and documents any unusual events that occurred during the shift. This shall include but is not limited to exceptional teamwork and professionalism, accidents, injuries, safety issues, deviations from appropriate patient care, breaches in professionalism, staffing abnormalities, and special circumstances and variances from policy and procedures.
Provide feedback regarding staff performance for on-going staff improvement and performance evaluations. This shall include but is not limited to verbal feedback, written documentation, and participating in staff evaluations.
Current Montana RN license required.
BSN preferred, or must be able to obtain within 5 years of employment.
Current Healthcare Provider CPR required.
Current Oncology Nursing Certification or obtain certification within one year of employment.
Minimum two years’ experience in similar position with a medical setting (e.g. physician office, clinic, or hospital).
