This position provides professional nursing care to patients in the hospital and the Wound, Ostomy, Hyperbaric (WOHBO) Department. This care shall be rendered in a safe and effective manner that is consistent with KRH’s policies, and procedures.
*Demonstrates a commitment to professionalism, civility, teamwork and customer service while undertaking all tasks and interactions with others.
*Exhibits knowledge of policies and procedures as they relate to the RN’s specific job duties, patient care and safety. Knowledgeable of staffing standards and demonstrates a commitment to cost containment with all resources.
*Maintains nursing standards of care, and executes appropriate physician orders while executing patient care., Demonstrates knowledge of and maintains the patient’s right to diversity, privacy and confidentiality.
*Assists primary RN with admission wound assessments when pressure injuries are present on admit and at regular intervals appropriate for the condition of the patient or as ordered by the physician/provider. This includes, but may not be limited to; neonate, pediatric, geriatric and the general population. Measures, photographs and assesses wounds and ostomies; applies and assesses various forms of compression and vacuum assisted closure apparatus.
*Administers wound related medications, treatments, dressings, and physician/provider specified care to patients in compliance with hospital and nursing policies and procedures.
*Assesses and reassesses each patient, identifies problems, develops plan of care, implements appropriate interventions and reevaluates plan of care.
*Documents all clinical findings and required regulatory mandates in the patient chart, in compliance with hospital and nursing policies and procedures or as defined by regulatory requirements.
*Completes and demonstrates competency/currency in unit specific required yearly competencies and educational requirements as defined by the assigned Unit department manager and CNO.
*Creates and implements all aspects of an in-patient wound and ostomy program. This includes, but may not be limited to; performing wound, ostomy and prevention rounding on all units, providing education to staff on all units, tracking hospital acquired injuries, performance improvement projects and evaluating outcomes of the program.
*Marks for stoma placement; teaches Wound/Ostomy and pressure injury prevention education to patients, family, caregivers and other healthcare professionals.
*Leads the quarterly National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators (NDNQI) Pressure Injury Survey, Skin Team and participate in appropriate Councils/Committees.
*Performs Transcutaneous Continuous Oximetry (T-COM) /blood flow testing and assists in OR when needed.
Current Montana RN License.
BSN degree preferred, or must be able to obtain within five (5) years of employment.
Current Health Care Provider BLS required.
Minimum of one (1) year previous medical and/or wound experience preferred.
Wound Ostomy Continence Nurse (WOCN) OR Wound Care Certified (WWC) and Ostomy Management Specialist (OMS) preferred, or must be able to successfully obtain within 18 months of employment.
