Overview

Promotes a positive and professional practice image. Performs variety of medically related clerical, accounting, and billing tasks to facilitate the smooth flow of patients through the practice. Performs duties ranging from patient registration and check out to other duties as required. Proficient in eClinical Works and/or Meditech software preferred. Employee must be a team member in all aspects of the job.

Job Duties

 

Level 1:

*Serves as a patient advocate,

*Answering telephones

*Electronic and paper filing

*Copy medical records, mail and/or fax

*Appointment reminder calls

*Assist in keeping track of clerical supplies

 

Level 2:

*Serves as a patient advocate

*Answering telephones

*Schedules and registers patients as well as electronically checking out patients

*Perform duties related to patient billing

*Collect and process payments, may include preparation and delivery of daily deposit

*Verifies/inputs patient demographics in the computer system

*Opens, sorts and distributes mail

*Performs all aspects of medical record processing

*Locks and unlocks clinical doors

*Inventory of clerical supplies

*Performs Level I duties as required.

 

Level 3:

*Resource/Leader for Clinic office staff

*Makes decisions regarding implementation of clinic policy and advises Clinic Office Manager

*Serves as a patient advocate

*Answering telephones

*Schedules and registers patients

*Perform duties related to patient billing

*Collect and process payments, may include preparation and delivery of daily deposit

*Acts as a resource to providers on CPT and ICD-9 Coding

*Understands insurance Explanation of Benefits (EOB)

*Creates and process claims

*Verifies/inputs patient demographics in the computer system

*Opens, sorts and distributes mail

*Performs all aspects of medical record processing

*Order clinic office supplies

*Performs Level I and II duties as required.

*Assists manager in coordination of staff.

 

Qualifications

Experience and Education:

Level 1: High school graduate or equivalency required. Computer software experience required. Customer service skills required. Previous medical office or customer service experience preferred.

 

Level 2: High school graduate or equivalency required. Computer software experience required. Customer service skills required. Minimum of 1 year experience in a medical office, clinic, or other customer service setting preferred.

 

Level 3: High school graduate or equivalency required. Computer software experience required. Customer service skills required. Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a medical field, clinic (and other customer service setting required.) Must have accomplished the competencies required for both Clinic Office Clerk Level 1 and 2.

 

Knowledge:

Level 1: Knowledge of modern office methods, clerical equipment, operations and process. Understand the concept of confidentiality.

 

Level 2: Knowledge of modern office methods, clerical equipment, operations and process. Fundamental knowledge of basic billing procedures. Understand the concept of confidentiality. Medical terminology and understanding of medical records. Also understands the concept of referrals, and insurance EOB scanning.

 

Level 3: Knowledge of modern office methods, clerical equipment, operations and process. Must be familiar with medical terminology and abbreviations, ICD-9, CPT and HCPC coding regulations, various medical forms, reports and processing methods, and possess a fundamental knowledge of basic medical billing procedures. Understanding of the confidentiality laws that govern the provider-patient relationship, including but not limited to HIPAA guidelines. Understands Explanation of Benefits (EOB) and have the knowledge to correct medical claims before sending electronically to insurance companies. Possess excellent customer service skills.
