Assists with tasks necessary for the general organization of perioperative services including, turnover of the OR suites, transporting equipment and specimens, setup, maintenance, and cleaning of assigned equipment and supplies. Participates as a member of the clinical interdisciplinary team to provide excellent patient care.

Responsibilities

  1. *Demonstrates an excellent working knowledge of aseptic techniques and Universal Precautions and is able to apply them in all phases of OR operations.
  2. *Performs turnover of the OR Suite by removing all contaminated materials and properly cleaning all appropriate surfaces. Assists in performing terminal cleaning and completes all secondary assigned tasks in a timely and professional manner.
  3. *Prepares OR rooms with appropriate instruments, sutures, supplies, and equipment. Follows aseptic technique in opening sterile supplies and proper set up for procedures.
  4. *Collaborates with Environmental Services, to ensure the cleanliness of the entire operating room (OR) area, Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), Same Day Surgery, and Endoscopy.
  5. *Remains calm and professional when interacting with direct patient care and all staff. Consistently exhibits effective communication, customer service, and team building skills.
  6. *Assists in the safe transport of patients to and from the Medical Units, Emergency Room (ER), Same Day Surgery (SDS) and PACU, etc. Assists with direction, in patient transfer to and from stretcher and beds.
  7. *Assists the surgical team during operative procedures to include, but not limited to; draping patients, brings in supplies and operating equipment as needed.
  8. *Assists with anesthesia checking and stocking of carts/machines.
  9. *Participates in hospital wide infection control plan and quality improvement process. Maintains a safe and orderly environment and cares for equipment and supplies. Responsible for the cleaning of the autoclaves during night shift.
  10. *Provides input for changes to physician preference (instruction) cards according to surgeon's request.
  11. *Responds to and accepts responsibilities for calls in a timely and appropriate manner.

Qualifications

  1. Minimum of two (2) years Surgical Aide experience preferred.  Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.
  2. Current HS AED CPR.
  3. Must possess excellent communication skills and the ability to follow written and verbal instructions required.
  4. Must be able to plan, prioritize and meet assigned deadlines.
  5. Must possess professional communication skills, and work effectively with a diverse customer and coworker population.
  6. Previous working knowledge of the correct use of cleaning equipment and devices, such as mops, vacuums, scrubbers and polishing machines required. Previous experience with surgical equipment preferred.
