Overview

Provides testing lab services to meet the needs of patients performed in accordance with accepted standards and practices. Work closely with Clinical Lab Scientists and Supervisors department team(s) in a safe and effective manner that is consistent with KRH’s policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  1. *Performs assistance in departments including but not limited to: unload centrifuge, place specimens on analyzers, and store specimens.
  2. *Acts as liaison between Clinical Lab Scientists/Supervisors, Phlebotomy and Processing during daily operation work flow.
  3. *Checks equipment temperatures on a regular basis, per department procedures.
  4. *Prints pending lists, locates specimens as directed.
  5. *Stocks and keeps track of department inventory. Follows documentation procedures.
  6. *Performs routine preventative maintenance on instruments. Cleans department area and equipment, per procedure.
  7. *Prepare specimens of good quality to expedite diagnosis by the Clinical Lab Scientist, within clinical lab department staff (s) (i.e. Send Outs, Chemistry, Hematology, Blood Bank) This can include loading instruments, checking pending lists, stocking materials, inventory, assisting in Send Outs, etc.
  8. *Uses effective oral and written communications skills. Provides organized, legible documentation of activities; effective in one-on-one and group discussions; communicates effectively with co-workers to assure uninterrupted resulting of tests to provide quality patient care.
  9. *Uses professional judgment and effective decision-making skills. Effective in handling problems or unusual / difficult situations with specimens, co-workers or customers; requests assistance when appropriate.
  10. Participate in the technical training of specimen preparations for new employees. Assists with projects and in other areas as time permits

Qualifications

  1. High school graduate or equivalency preferred; other combinations of education and experience may be considered.
  2. Additional education in clinical Lab related field preferred.
  3. Two to three years’ experience; Laboratory or related field preferred.
  4. Ability to communicate effectively and maintain cooperative relationships with providers, staff members and patients.
  5. Ability to use good judgment, apply a high degree of integrity and maintain confidentiality at all times.
  6. Ability to follow directions and work in a planned manner without direct supervision. Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  7. Follows all KRH and Lab safety standards.
