Overview

The Polysomnographic Technologist will provide comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders including in center and out of center sleep testing, diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, comprehensive patient care and direct patient education. Works collaboratively with Physicians, Advance Practice Providers, RNs, LPNs, Techs and other inter- and intra-department staff to meet the physical, psychosocial, education and spiritual needs of the patient and family.

Responsibilities

  1. *Gathers, analyzes and verifies patient’s records, medical history and orders. Accurately and appropriately documents according to protocol.
  2. *Incorporates population specific needs into all aspects of communication, patient care and education. Scope of services encompasses age groups ranging from infant through geriatric.
  3. *Performs setup, hookup, sleep study acquisition, cleanup, scoring and report generating accurately, effectively, efficiently and according to protocols. Performs routine equipment care, maintenance and inventory evaluations accurately, effectively and efficiently.
  4. *Complies with applicable laws, regulations, guidelines, industry standards and KRH policies and procedures, regarding standard of care, safety and infection control issues.
  5. *Maintains current required certifications, meets CEC requirements and meets all state, local, federal and KRH educational requirements timely.
  6. *Provides clerical and administrative support accurately and as needed.
  7. *Attends meetings, in-services, educational activities and workshops as scheduled by department leadership.
  8. *Exhibits and demonstrates strong clinical skills, judgment and problem-solving ability within the scope of practice and follows protocols appropriately.
  9. *Exhibits strong interpersonal relational and communication skills
  10. *Exhibits leadership abilities, takes appropriate initiative, is reliable and dependable with duties, and may serve as a team leader and/or trainer to new techs.
  11. *Under supervision of department leadership, participates in process improvement or risk improvement related departmental activities.
  12. *Assists in all sleep center operations as needed and performs other duties as needed to meet the needs of the department.

Qualifications

  1. Associate’s degree in polysomnography, science or medicine preferred.
  2. Current credentialing in sleep technology (RPSGT &/or RRT) and healthcare CPR required.
  3. Ability to interpret, adapt and apply required guidelines and protocols.
  4. Must possess attention to detail and analytical skills necessary to organize daily work, interpret data and maintain simple to moderate complex records required. Must employ time-management concepts to maximize time effectively.
  5. Must be able to exercise good judgment under stressful and non-stressful conditions and must be committed to abiding by patient confidentiality guidelines/HIPAA, while maintaining records and recording data.
  6. Demonstrated application and usage of personal protective equipment (PPE) for patient and staff safety required.
  7. Competency with office equipment, computers and experience with electronic health records including; progress notes, patient histories, and vitals, are required. Ability to complete documentation of patient encounters and telephone encounters required.
  8. Must have an ability to work both independently and within a team environment, as well as possesses excellent communication skills.
