Overview

The Respiratory Care Practitioner provides professional respiratory therapy care to patients of all ages and in every patient care area as assigned. This care shall be rendered in a safe and effective manner that is consistent with KRH’s policies and procedures.

 

  1. Attends to patient’s needs promoting health, comfort and life.
  2. Demonstrates commitment to professionalism, civility, teamwork and customer service while undertaking all tasks and interactions with others
  3. Exhibits knowledge of policies and procedures as they relate to the RT’s specific job duties, patient care and safety.
  4. Competently performs basic respiratory therapy skills to include, but not limited to; management of mechanical ventilation and non-invasive ventilation modalities, medication administration, use of varied medical equipment, utilization of electronic medical record documentation, and assists providers within the respiratory scope of practice. Skill set will be validated with preceptor and annually as outlined in unit specific competency program.
  5. Assumes professional accountability for maintaining competency as outlined in the unit based structure and peer review fulfilling the respiratory department and organization’s goals.
  6. Makes sound scope of practice-related judgments and decisions while delivering excellent patient care which is reflected in quality documentation, patient outcomes, and various data components.
  7. Participates as an engaged team member working collegially with staff members within and outside of the unit.

     8. Population served will include neonatal, pediatric, adolescents, adult, and geriatric care patients from diverse cultural backgrounds. The respiratory therapist will deliver individualized culturally sensitive patient care accordingly.

Responsibilities

  1. Fulfills patient care expectations as a respiratory therapist as determined by the job description and unit specific clinical competency program.
  2. Expects to be held accountable for practice by his/hers peers and supervisors. Expects to be a mentor or coach to fellow colleagues and staff.
  3. Frequent moving and transferring of respiratory equipment.
  4. Ability to utilize, manipulate and operate medical equipment as outlined in the competency program.
  5. Consistent attendance for shifts assigned is required and reflected in performance review. Must comply with KRH attendance expectations as outlines in policies.
  6. Clear, concise, compassionate communication with patients, physicians, families and co-workers in person, via telephone and electronic methods.
  7. Ability to use sensory and cognitive functions to process, multitask and prioritize information using critical thinking with or without reasonable accommodations.
  8. Ability to use computer and various technologies related to job expectations and participates in learning new devices and software.
  9. Documentation on electronic medical record. This includes reviewing the patient’s chart.
  10. Must comply with KRH dress code as outlined in policies.
  11. Compliance with KRH confidentially, compliance and privacy practices.

   12. Maintains established unit competencies as updated annually.

Qualifications

  1. Current Montana RCP License
  2. NBRC credential(s) are to be kept up-to-date unless the RCP is grandfathered in per NBRC guidelines.
  3. Required certifications include, but are not limited to: BLS, ACLS, NRP (within 6 months of hire), and PALS (within 1 year of hire).
  4. Certifications are to be kept current.
