The Pediatric Infusion RN assists the physicians/providers with the examination and treatment of patients. Performs routine tasks required to ensure the clinic runs smoothly and participates in the planning and evaluation of patient care.  Services pediatric patients.


  1. *Performs general nursing duties and specialty procedures. Develops, implements and revises individualized, goal directed nursing care to patients through the use of the nursing process as appropriate to licensure, state guidelines, and clinic policies/procedures. 
  2. *Assesses patient for IV access, accesses central vascular access devices or establishes peripheral IV catheter access. Coordinates calculation and preparation of chemotherapy and supportive care medications with Pharmacist. Responsible for complex regimens and understands cycling and scheduling to assure the quality for all chemotherapy patients is maintained.  Provides patient education.
  3. *Performs in collaboration with research coordinator, primary investigator, and pharmacist for tracking of patients on clinical trials.
  4. *Maintains clean and well-stocked patient stations with easy access to IV materials, lab supplies, and IV fluids. Operates and maintains equipment to departmental standards.  Demonstrates knowledge of staffing standards and a demonstrated commitment to cost containment with all resources.
  5. *Demonstrates a commitment to professionalism, civility, teamwork and customer service while undertaking all tasks and interactions with others. Knowledge of policies and procedures as they relate to the RN’s specific job duties, patient care and safety.
  6. *Maintains nursing standards of care, and executes appropriate physician orders. While executing patient care, demonstrates knowledge of and maintains the patient’s right to diversity, privacy and confidentiality.
  7. *Performs a comprehensive assessment of patient on admission and at regular intervals appropriate for the condition of the patient or as ordered by the physician/provider.
  8. *Administers chemotherapy, medications, blood transfusions, treatments, physician/provider specified care and intravenous therapy to patients in compliance with hospital, clinic and nursing policies and procedures.
  9. *Reassesses the patient to monitor status, identify changes in vital signs, lab work and implement interventions as ordered or defined. Assesses and evaluates the patient responses to treatment or therapy in compliance with hospital, clinic and nursing policies and procedures.
  10. *Communicates all appropriate and critical changes in the patient’s condition, status and findings to the appropriate physician/provider in a timely manner or as defined by policies and procedures and/or physician/provider orders.
  11. *Documents in chart all clinical findings in an accurate and timely manner to maintain compliance with hospital, clinic and nursing policies and procedures and/or as defined by regulatory requirements.

*Demonstrates competency/currency in Outpatient Infusion specific competencies within 60-days of Outpatient Infusion Unit employment. Completes and demonstrates +competency/currency in Outpatient Infusion specific required unit competencies and educational requirements as defined by the Practice Manager.


  1. Current Montana RN license required. BSN preferred.
  2. One (1) year of previous Medical/Surgical and/or Oncology Care experience required. Chemotherapy experience preferred.
  3. Current Healthcare Provider CPR required. PALS or PEARS required or ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire. National Certification in Oncology Nursing. OCN or CPON preferred.
  4. Current ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Provider Card or the ability to successfully obtain within six (6) months of hire.
  5. APOHN (Association of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Nurses) Provider Status preferred or able to obtain within one (1) year of hire.
  6. Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in a similar position within a medical setting (e.g. physician office, clinic, or hospital) preferred.
  7. Experience in all types of IV’s required.
  8. Training position may be considered in lieu of required experience or qualifications.
