  • Overview

    The Certified Nurse Midwife is an advanced practice nurse who provides direct clinical services to patients served in the midwife clinics and the perinatal areas of the hospital. Works in close collaboration with OB, Pediatric, Family Practice, Perinatology, and Neonatology physicians.


    1. Utilize the nurse-midwifery management process:
      • Perform a comprehensive assessment of patients in clinic and hospital settings.
      • Develop, implement, and revise an individualized plan of care.
      • Provide individualized patient education regarding conditions, diagnoses, diagnostic procedures, medications, and treatment options.
      • Adhere to CNM scope of practice and seek consultation or referral appropriately.
      • Follow up appropriately.
      • Document care clearly, completely, and accurately, in a format that follows clinic standards and justifies coding and charges.
    2. Demonstrate commitment to the midwifery model of care as defined by the American College of Nurse Midwives:
      • Promotion of family-centered care.
      • Advocacy for informed choice and shared decision-making.
      • Recognition of the therapeutic value of human support during labor and birth.
      • Skillful communication, guidance, and counseling.
      • Cultural competence.
      • Adherence to the Code of Ethics of the ACNM.
    3. Participate in QA activities as assigned.
    4. Participate in marketing and practice promotion activities as assigned.
    5. Demonstrate stewardship of resources to maximize clinical excellence while maintaining cost effectiveness.


    1. Current Montana APRN/CNM License, including prescriptive authority.
    2. Masters Degree in Nursing.
    3. ACNM Certification and compliance with ACNM certification maintenance.
    4. Compliance with credentialing requirements of KRH.
    5. Current CPR Certification.
    6. Current NALS Certification.
    7. Must have at least 2 years of experience
