  • Overview

    The Communications Specialist supports Kalispell Regional Healthcare’s strategic communication needs through the development and execution of diverse communications initiatives. With a primary focus on internal communications, this position is accountable for developing and distributing engaging content through a wide variety of channels, including electronic newsletters, organizational intranet, print media and video. The Communications Specialist is an individual who is a proficient writer, excellent time manager, creative, resourceful, technologically savvy and delivers excellent customer service.


    1. *Develops, coordinates and executes strategic internal and external communication plans as assigned, manages activities as outlined in plans, and effectively meeting deadlines and goals. Actively collaborates with others within and outside the department as a team to accomplish plan objectives
    2. *Measures the impact from communications activities by identifying project metrics and tracking project analytics. Regularly tracks and submits productivity measures.
    3. *Manages production process for projects as assigned, moving deliverables along the project lifecycle from start to finish.
    4. *Develops a trusted advisor relationship with departmental leaders and provides account management services to assigned departments to support their communications goals.
    5. *Conducts research, interviews and writes content for print publications, digital communications, news releases and other strategic content channels. Actively contributes to the system editorial calendar.
    6. *Manages the distribution and execution of content across multiple KRH communications channels as assigned.
    7. *Provides Media Relations support, as needed, to respond to media requests for interviews, information, or photography/videography.
    8. *Represents the department on various committees across the System.
    9. *Assists with production as needed, including graphic design, photography and videography and adheres to KRH graphic standards.
    10. *Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining professional networks, and sharing learning with larger team.


    1. Bachelor's degree in journalism, English, marketing, communications, public relations or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired is required.
    2. Minimum of three (3) years marketing communications experience required. Healthcare industry experience preferred.
    3. Proficiency in MS Office and the Adobe Creative Suite required. Excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills with attention to grammar and punctuation. Possess ability to be creative, inventive and imaginative.
    4. Excellent planning, organization, and prioritization skills in the areas of needs assessment, project management, budgeting, and tactical execution.
    5. Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment, manage several projects simultaneously and work independently under strict deadlines. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required.
    6. Strong ability to build relationships and collaborate with team members and internal customers. Must be an active team member, contribute and follow through. Stellar customer service skills and diplomacy when under pressure. Demonstrates a commitment to professionalism while undertaking all tasks and in interactions with patients, clients, physicians, facility staff and the community at large.
    7. Have thorough knowledge of integrated marketing communications and the planning/tactical execution of communications strategies.
    8. Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Ability to work autonomously. Must be self-motivated, self-directed, proactive and solution-oriented in approach to work and serving the needs of internal and external audiences.
